Dan is a native of rural Lennox, South Dakota. He fondly recalls his parents splitting their working time between teaching and farming, and involving their young children in every aspect of the family's purebred hog operation.
Dan attended O'Gorman High School, and then received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He attended law school at the University of South Dakota School of Law. During law school he worked as a research assistant to the Hon. Robert Amundson, retired Supreme Court Justice, and served as vice-president of the Moot Court Board. He graduated 2nd in his class and received the distinction of Sterling Honors.
Dan started his private practice in 2005 with offices in Sioux Falls and Parker. Dan's litigation practice emphasizes commercial and general civil cases. He represents individuals, businesses, and companies large and small, from 1 to 1,000 employees. His caseload includes contested estates; personal injury; insurance disputes; business disputes; commercial evictions; and "bad house" cases. Dan regularly accepts cases from Spanish-speaking clients in the Sioux Falls area. He is a past-President of the Second Circuit Bar Association.
Dan lives in Sioux Falls with his wife and fellow O'G alum Jennifer (Lee) Brendtro, their two high-energy children, an exceptionally calm baby, an ever-evolving mix of fish and frogs, and a very loyal dog whose favorite past-time is car rides. Jen specializes in graphic and interior design. Dan remains an avid fan of Hoyas basketball, and serves as the Chair of the Georgetown Alumni Admissions Committee for North and South Dakota. His remaining free time is consumed by carpentry, running, hiking, reading, managing his fantasy football team, and playing cards.
He also writes a weekly column on legal issues for South Dakota newspapers. You can
