I have been convicted of a South Dakota DUI . What is an SR-22 filing?

If you have been convicted of driving under the influence in South Dakota, an SR-22 form must be filed with the state. An SR-22 is a certificate of proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance) submitted by your insurance company. An SR-22 indicates that you are able to maintain insurance for three years. This is required whether or not you own a motor vehicle. If you fail to obtain an SR-22, your license will be revoked again.

If you change insurance companies during the three-year period, you must notify your new insurance company of the need to file the SR-22 form immediately.
