36-Year-Old South Dakota Woman Killed by Seemingly Negligent Driver

A devastating South Dakota car accident took the life of a 36-year-old Canton, SD woman on Friday, June 10, 2011. The crash occurred outside of Harrisburg, SD.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Stacey Lou Brown was waiting first in line at the intersection of S.D. Highway 11 and 276th Street. There were four cars in line behind Brown.
The last in the line of five cars, 28-year-old Brian Hoogendoorn of Harrisburg, attempted to pass the other vehicles. In the process, he hit Brown while she was trying to make a left turn.
Brown was killed from the impact. Hoogendoorn and a 4-year-old passenger in Brown's car were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The accident is now under investigation by police, but it seems as though they will find Hoogendoorn liable for the wreck. There may be criminal and civil suits pending against him.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Brown's family as well as all of those involved in this crash. We hope that those injured heal quickly.
