A violent collision in the median of I-29 led to serious damage and injuries last week. The South Dakota car accident happened north of Brookings around noon on Monday, April 18, 2011.
A maroon sedan carrying two people was headed north on I-29 when it crossed over the median, crashing into the front of an oncoming gray sedan. It is not yet known what caused the car to lose control.
The gray car sustained significant damage to the front end in the wreck. However, it was nothing compared to that of the maroon vehicle, which had its whole rear end torn completely off.
The Brookings Fire Department removed the front passenger door to help the driver and passenger in the maroon car. At least one person was airlifted to Sioux Falls after being taken to Brookings Hospital.
We hope everyone involved in the accident is okay and heals quickly. We will provide more details about this scary crash if and when they become available.
