Police cited a young driver for careless driving after he caused a two-vehicle accident in Pierre, South Dakota. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011.
Samuel Bennett, 23, was driving southbound on Radar Hill Road when he pulled onto Highway 44 in front of an eastbound truck.
The driver of the truck, traveling 55 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, locked up his brakes to avoid the collision, but hit the car anyway. There were 200 feet of skid marks on the highway afterwards.
Bennett told police that he stopped at the intersection before pulling out in front of the truck, but that he was looking at his GPS when he pulled out. Bennett was cited for careless driving for his role in the crash.
Both drivers received minor injuries in the crash, but were not taken to the hospital. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by the accident, and we're glad to hear that no one was more seriously injured.
