An attempted robbery turned car chase in Sioux City, IA ended violently on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, putting a South Dakota man in custody.
Around 7:30 a.m., the Iowa State Patrol received a call that 23-year-old Karlis Baisden, of Vermillion, SD, had tried to rob the First Trust & Savings Bank in Lawton, Iowa.
Police located Baisden driving eastbound on Highway 20 toward Sioux City. They followed him into a Burger King parking lot near Stone Avenue and back out into the oncoming traffic side of the highway.
Police boxed him in and spun Baisden's car out in an intentional collision. No one was hurt in the car crash, but Baisden was taken into custody.
Two loaded handguns were found in Baisden's car after he was stopped. The vehicle he was driving was reported stolen.
