Although little is yet known about what caused a fatal South Dakota accident on Friday, November 15, 2013, it has been reported that a 30-year-old Centerville woman was seriously injured, and a 29-year-old Beresford woman lost her life in the accident. Sadly, authorities say that neither driver was wearing a seat belt when the accident took place.
According to a report from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the accident took place a few miles north of Alcester shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday. A Chevrolet Uplander, driven by Jennifer Renae Weiland, of Beresford, was traveling westbound on Highway 46. At the intersection of Highway 46 and Highway 11, Weiland’s vehicle collided with a northbound Ford Windstar, driven by Jessica Ann Ault, of Centerville. Both vehicles ended up in a nearby ditch after the collision.
Ault is reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident, and she was transferred to Sanford USD Medical Center for treatment. Authorities say that Weiland was tragically declared dead at the scene. In line with the family’s wishes, Sanford USD Medical Center has not yet released an update on Ault’s condition following the Sioux Falls accident.
Many questions also remain regarding the causes of the accident, but no further information had been made available by authorities at the time of this report.
The legal team at Zimmer, Duncan, and Cole, LLP, offer our sincere condolences to the family of Jennifer Renae Weiland after this shocking accident, and our hearts go out to Jessica Ann Ault and her family in this difficult time.
