A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper was hit and injured on Interstate 229 in snowy conditions near Sioux Falls last week.
The trooper, who was sitting in his patrol car trying to clear an earlier accident site, was struck from behind by another driver.
The accident occurred near the 26th Street exit on I-229, resulting in minor injuries to the police officer. The other driver was not hurt.
This is the second injury to a Highway Patrol trooper clearing an accident scene in as many months, as another was side-swiped near Tea in November.
Highway Patrol Captain Kevin Joffer said that "in this situation you had a trooper already doing his job trying to take care of an incident and the actions of another just caused another emergency."
"You need to slow down, you need to watch the changing conditions," Joffer continued, as a warning to other drivers in slick conditions.
