A South Dakota man is in critical condition after being involved in a train-truck collision in Nebraska. The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on January 14, 2011.
The trucker, 78-year-old Marlin Fritz, of Watertown, SD, was driving a semi truck in Kearney, NE when he got stuck in snow and slush on the north side of railroad tracks at Highway 30 and Antelope Avenue.
With the help of another person, Fritz tried to dolly down his trailer and get unstuck. However, there was only enough time for Fritz to spin his wheels before being hit by a Union Pacific Railroad train.
The truck was decimated in the crash, and Fritz was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment in critical condition. He remains there at the time of writing this article.
Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this accident. We would like to remind all readers to be safe and cautious when crossing railroad tracks.
