An 18-wheeler accident near Faith, SD occurred at about 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011, starting a fire and resulting in minor injuries to those involved.
According to police, a truck hauling oil pipe was driving southbound on Highway 73, 21 miles north of Faith, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The truck veered into the ditch alongside the road and rolled over. It started on fire, burning the trailer portion of the vehicle almost completely.
The driver, who has not been identified, suffered only minor injuries in the scary crash. A 3-year-old passenger of the truck was able to escape nearly unharmed from the crash as well.
"The truck did start on fire but the 3-year-old was able to get out and then the first person on the scene pulled the door open so the driver could get out," said Perkins County Sheriff Kelly Serr.
Both the driver and the 3-year-old were taken to a North Dakota hospital for treatment. An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, as distracted or drowsy driving seems a possibility.
Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this crash. We are glad that no one, especially the child, was more seriously injured.
