A truck crashed into a moving train on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, in the early morning hours. No one was killed in the accident.
The accident occurred around 1 a.m. at the 5500 East Rice Street railroad crossing, near the entrance of Great Bear Recreation Area, when a Chevy pickup truck hit a passing train.
The driver of the truck, whose name has not yet been released, sustained injuries when his head hit the window of his truck. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Sioux Falls Police, and The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department all came to the scene of the accident. Alcohol is not thought to be involved, though icy roads or driver fatigue may be factors.
Our thoughts are with all of those involved in this accident.
